Katy Kat Matte Lipstick Review

Hello everyone!

If I can only have one make up product, it would have to be a lip product. Lippies add a pop of color to your face and when you’re in a rush, you can just throw on a pair of sunglasses and you’re good to go. It’s no surprise that my very first make up product was a Lipstick.

I remember going to Shoppers Drug Mart – I loved that store and was just obsessed when I was young. Everything had to be bought from Shoppers, gosh such a loyalist. I stood in front of isles upon isles of make-up and with my limited budget, I finally decided on the Covergirl lipstick because it had a perfect mauve.

I don’t remember the official name of the line but it was in a nice slender tube that was an emerald, jade like color…..I know, I know, but this was a long time ago.

Looking back, sometimes I wish I was able to limit myself to just one lip product or one any item for that matter but hey, I do my part to stimulate the economy.

I can’t say that Covergirl has remained my favorite drugstore lipstick brand because the last few products that I tried gave off a chemical, plastic, waxy taste and that is such a pet peeve of mine.

Needless to say, I’ve been really reluctant to try any new lines, however, I’m a sucker for collaborations. I just like supporting them and the collaboration between Covergirl and Katy Perry is no exception.

The “Katy Kat Collection retails for under $10 but you can definitely catch it on a sale.

The packaging is simple. The lipsticks are in a white tube that can get dirty quite easily but it’s plastic so you can wipe them clean just as easily. Each shade is written on the bottom of the tube underneath cat ears which I find to be a cute touch.

The line offers 13 colors and the lipsticks are advertised as demi-matte. Personally, I would classify them more as cream lipsticks. The darker shades will stain your lips, which most darker shades of lipsticks tend to do anyways.

The formula contains shea, aloe and avocado butter – ingredients found in a lot of moisturizing body washes so it’s no surprise to see that the lipsticks are slightly hydrating and glides on easier. It runs on the creamier side, something that I like because I hate when lip products accentuate any dryness or cracks on the lip.

With regards to color payoff, you need a few coats for most of the colors to really appreciate the color but on average, they do last a number of hours without reapplying if you don’t eat. If you don’t wait for it to dry after you apply, it will transfer to whatever you place your lips on. Once it dries, you won’t have this problem.

It has a slight vanilla flavor or scent. You get 0.12 oz of product. It’s fair to say that this is a very “fun” line and the colors won’t be for everyone but they’re at a reasonable price so if you want to check them out, it won’t break the bank.

The colors include:

Sphynx KP01 – A nude color that people with more fair skin would be able to appreciate more. One of my favorites because it isn’t completely nude but offers some color, granted I do have fair skin but have tanned quite a bit this year. I would definitely wear this color and incorporate it as an everyday shade.

Pink Paws KP02 – a light pink – definitely a wearable color.

Magenta Minx KP03 – hot pink. This is a serious pop of color and you would either love it or hate it. I’m on the fence because I feel that it’s just “okay”.

Coral Cat KP04 – a coral orange pink. This is a fairly bright and vibrant color. For those who stay away from reds and pinks, I don’t know if you would like this one because the color pops. Personally, I do like the look though and think that a lot of people can rock this shade especially during the spring and summer.

Crimson Cat KP05 – red – wearable and lovely color that I think would look great on all skin tones.

Cat call KP06 – a deeper pink that is I think would look great for date nights and parties.

Kitty Purry KP07 – a lilac color. I find it really hard to pull these colors and rock it but it probably is just me because I just don’t gravitate to lilac lipsticks. Love this color but it’s just not for me.

Cosmo Kitty KP08 – a vibrant purple – definitely not an everyday color nor everyone’s cup of tea. I would wear it during certain events, more like a Halowe’en party – sorry but a bit outside of my comfort zone.

Maroon Meow KP09 – berry color. Wearable

Catoure KP10 – a mauve brown. Another favorite, very wearable color for every skin tone.

Perry Panther KP11 – a blue-based black……where were you when I was growing up. I loved that dark lip look when I was a teen but have outgrown that. I love the look but can’t picture any occasion that I can wear this in my life now but if I had an opportunity, would take advantage of it just to reminisce.

Purrsian Pink KP12 – a Walmart exclusive shade – a very wearable year round pinkish mauve color.

Tame Tiger KP13 – The newest shade to be introduced to the line. It was launched for last Fall and is a shimmery bronze color that is quite wearable.

Overall, I think this is a successful collaboration and a fun line to buy to try out when on sale. I don’t feel that there is a huge wow factor that you need to run out to buy unless you’re a Katy Perry fan.

Hope this review was helpful.
