I remember when Celine came out with their “Luggage” line in 2010, it caught me off guard as I was unfamiliar with the brand. Given everyone, or so it appeared, seemed to have one, I was left wondering if it was going to become a classic or just another trendy piece.
However, like everything else, when you see it everywhere and on everyone, you end up either loving it or hating it and this little piece definitely grew on me and I just had to get it.
Doesn’t it look like a face with the ends of the handles as the eyes and the zipper as the mouth? Such a cute piece that makes me smile every time I look at it.
HISTORY: In 1945, Celine Vipiana and her husband created this brand “Celine” as a made-to-measure children’s shoe business.
In 1960, the brand decided to change and focus on ready-to-wear fashion for women and that’s when the range including handbags with offered by this brand. Celine Vipiana remained as the designer up until 1997.
After 1997, other famous designers have played a part including Michael Kors and Roberto Menichetti, but the major turning point in terms of brand recognition didn’t take place until Phoebe Philo took over and launched the Luggage line in 2010.
WHERE TO BUY: Celine has about 150 stores worldwide as is carried in most high end department stores. Like most things, once the popularity rises, so does the price. If you were one of the lucky ones who got this bag when it was first launched, not only would you have saved quite a bit of money but you would have also avoided the wait lists……yes, the dreaded wait lists!
SIZES: The Luggage line currently offers 3 sizes.
Nano Luggage with Dimensions of 8 H” x 8″ W x 4″ D
Micro Luggage with Dimensions of 10 H” x 10″ W x 6″ D
Mini Luggage with Dimensions of 12 H” x 12″ W x 7″ D
FUNCTIONALITY: Doubles as a workhorse and travel bag. Depending on the size that you choose, could go from day to night. There is a full zipper on the top of the bag so you don’t have to worry about anything falling out. From a compartment point of view, there is a zipper pocket and double flat pocket in the interior. An added bonus is that this bag has protective feet on the bottom but I generally use a bag holder because the color is on the lighter side so dirt will show up.
MATERIALS: The leather on this Celine is in Drummed Calfskin and in the color Dune. I feel that Dune is a very neutral color that can go with every outfit.
Other materials include:
Calf and Textile
There will always be new combinations and variants added into the line for seasonal offerings but the debate as to whether or not this is just a trend or classic is clear – the Luggage line is hear to stay.

Until next time!
